Meet the Counselor

Hillary Naef LPC, NCC

As a person-centered therapist, Hillary provides a non-judgmental and empathic environment where clients are encouraged to learn about themselves. She strives to create a space where clients can discover how they came to this place in their life and grow in their understanding of self through a holistic approach.

A Colorado native, Hillary earned her Bachelor’s degree from CU, Denver, and obtained her Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from CCU. Throughout the course of her counseling career, Hillary has worked with couples and individuals on a wide range of issues including anxiety, depression, grief, life transitions, personality disorders, substance use and addiction, trauma, parenting, relationship problems, self-esteem, boundaries, identity, and religious trauma/faith deconstruction.

Hillary is trained in Perinatal Mental Health and specializes in working with individuals experiencing postpartum mood disorders. She recognizes the unique struggles mothers face in the postpartum period and embraces opportunities to come alongside them and support them.

Additionally, Hillary is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and specializes in helping individuals heal from narcissistic relationships and narcissistic abuse. She meets clients where they are and works with them to desensitize trauma stored, build boundaries, and get clients closer to feeling like their authentic selves.

Beyond counseling work, Hillary offers individual supervision to LPC candidates seeking licensure in Colorado.

 FAQs for the Counselor

  • Sulag is a Korean word meaning acceptance. As a mixed raced therapist, I wanted to incorporate my Korean culture into my business. Acceptance is a large component of the work I do with clients; acceptance of our circumstances, acceptance of what we cannot control, and acceptance of ourselves.

  • Even after you have chosen to move forward with a counselor, you might have some reservations. Therapy can feel like an intimidating process, but you are not alone. Therapy is a journey you and I will take together. While I will not have answers to all your concerns, I will listen carefully and ask thoughtful questions. Your answers will then shape the direction of our work. You can expect to feel heard and respected. Additionally, you can expect to be gently challenged, as growth comes from the ability to challenge oneself.

  • The initial session is an opportunity for you to tell me your story and for us to discuss your goals. This session is also a chance to evaluate if we are a good fit. One of the biggest contributions to the outcome of therapy is the therapist and client relationship. The first session is a good time to make sure you feel like I am the best therapist to help you meet your goals.

  • I provide online counseling for adults who reside in Colorado. My expertise is in anxiety and stress, codependency and people-pleasing, self-worth, perfectionism, perinatal mood disorders, and individuals in/previously in narcissistic relationships.

  • My rate is $150 per 50 minute session. Although I do not take insurance, I can provide clients with a superbill to submit to their insurance company for potential out of network reimbursement. Additionally, I do provide a sliding scale for clients who need it.
